IAS Calcutta Chapter Presentation 2010

IAS Calcutta Chapter Activities--- The Kolkata IAS Chapter organizes Lectures by eminent personalities in the field of Electrical & Electronics Engineering , from or around Calcutta , from other cities in India , as well as, from abroad Around 6 Technical Lecture meetings are arranged throughout the year. Seminars / Workshops / Short Term Courses on special topics are organized from time to time for the benefit of the local engineering students and professional engineers in the industry. These meetings, including social ones, also serve to bring the members close together, so that they get to know each other, and thus benefit in their professional field. The Chapter maintains a close and coherent relation with the Electrical Engineering faculty of Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (erstwhile Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur), Jadavpur University, Kolkata and other engineering institutes in and around Kolkata in organizing its activities

Challenges, Scope and Future Aim

Limited to mostly technical lecture meetings •Handshake with industry limited to technical lectures only –reduced industrial activities / low industrial involvement in academic interaction •Activities are Kolkata-centric –because of (i) member distribution, (ii) geographical reasons, (iii) infrastructural reasons, (iv) impediment for passionate members, located away from Kolkata

Activities for the Last Three Years

•Regularly arranges for IEEE-Technical Lecture Meetings –usually 5 –7 lectures per year. •Co-sponsor of “Short Term Course on Power Electronics,” held at Dept. of Electrical Engineering, IIEST Shibpur •Non-financial support to conferences / symposia, held at various engineering colleges / institutes within the geographical domain Download Brochure
